Father’s Day 2020: Celebrating Dad From a Distance

by Nathan Dennis

Safely Celebrating Father’s Day while Social Distancing.

Ah, Father’s Day. The name conjures up images of Summer cookouts, humid afternoons, soccer balls being kicked around, all those happy Nostalgic Summer time joys.

Unfortunately, due to the spread of COVID-19, having large gatherings for Father’s Day is less practical this time around. If you’re not able to be with your Father on Father’s Day due to the spread of COVID-19, there are still great ways to celebrate Father’s Day safely and securely!

We don’t have to let COVID-19 stop us from expressing our love for our family.

Love isn’t bound by distance. Father’s Day doesn’t have to disappear simply because we all cannot be together this year. There are creative, original ways to celebrate Father’s Day from a distance.

Here are our 10 favorite.

10 Fun Ways to Celebrate Father’s Day From a Distance

10. Send an eCard.

It’s no secret that Smallpdf loves eCards. They’re fast, customizable, and envelope-free—meaning you don’t have to worry about getting paper cuts on your tongue.

9. Pick up the phone!

A good Father’s Day Gift is a classic phone call! It can be combined with other great gifts, or just done on its own. Make sure to give Dad a call to let him know how much he means to you!

8. Buy an online gift.

Not to parrot all of our politicians, but the economy is not shut down! Places are accepting online orders and getting those orders delivered! A great Father’s Day gift idea is getting your dad that perfect gift and having it delivered straight to his door.

7. How about a subscription?

Not all gifts are physical gifts. If you’re looking for unique gifts for dad, why not consider a subscription? There are fun themed boxes, wine clubs, streaming subscriptions, or even an annual subscription to Smallpdf!

6. A magazine or newspaper subscription?

More specific than our last suggestion, why not purchase an annual subscription to your dad’s favorite magazine or newspaper? Plus, you get to support print news + journalism! Win-win!

5. Zoom Happy Hour.

It’s 2020. We have technology! While we can’t all be in the same room due to social distancing, we can all see each other through the power of Zoom, Google Hangouts, and Skype. Organize a family-wide happy hour in honor of your dad! I’m sure it’ll make his day!

4. Reserve a trip for when you all can be together

Be it a restaurant, a flight home, or even organizing a destination vacation all together, it’s great to plan for the future.

3. Order a takeout order from your dad’s favorite restaurant.

If you’re looking for great father’s day gift ideas, this is a winner. Order take-out from your dad’s preferred restaurant is a great way to elevate that Father’s Day meal, even if you can’t be together.

2. Give a donation.

For the man who has everything: why not give a donation to a cause your dad supports. There are unending amounts of wonderful charities that you can give in your father’s name—allowing your gift to keep on giving.

1. Flatten the curve.

It’s not a direct gift, per se, but one of the best gifts you can give is health! Stay safe by social distancing. Social distancing reduces to rate of COVID-19 infections, and helps protect vulnerable populations from contracting the disease. Give your dad the gift of health by keeping him safe from COVID-19. Stay safe! Flatten the curve!
