Use the Smallpdf eSign service to create a free electronic signature and sign your contracts. You can also request others to sign a contract.

Got a new job? Congrats! Found a new home? Hurray! Finalizing a sales contract? Whatever the reason, there are lots of times when you need to sign a document. And with everything moving more into the digital world, why shouldn’t this process also happen online?

Smallpdf offers a reliable and easy-to-use online tool to create your very own electronic signature, sign documents in the blink of an eye, and even easily request signatures from other people. And the best part? It’s free. In this guide, we’ll show you how easy it can be to sign a contract online.

Sign contracts online using Smallpdf

In doing so, you’re signing your contract with an electronic signature.

If your contract isn’t already in PDF format, you can still use eSign. We’ll convert your files to PDF when you upload them to the tool. Otherwise, we have a free-to-use online document converter to convert from Microsoft Office or image formats. If you want to sign Google Docs, save them as PDFs from Google Docs before you sign them.

While you have the contract open, you can review the content and add text where needed—as anything requiring a signature can be quite important, don’t rush through the process and make sure you know what you’re committing to.

How To Request a Signature for a Contract

Sometimes, your signature won’t be the only one needed. If and when you need someone else to sign a contract, you can request their signature directly from within the tool.

The process is similar, but rather than creating a signature to sign a contract, you can add signees’ information and start a signature request. Place signature fields to make it easy for the requested parties to know where to insert their names and signatures.

We’ll then send them an email with a link to open the contract within our eSign tool, and they can proceed to create a signature and sign the document.

Signees will always have free access to our online contract signer to get the job done. Once they sign, we’ll send an email confirmation to all parties involved with a download link to save the final contract for their records.

Create Legally Binding Signatures for Your Contracts

The legality of electronic signatures depends on your country and state legislation, and sometimes, it even varies locally. We do offer digital sealing for all Smallpdf members with a paid subscription. Digital sealing offers an additional trust layer to the signed document. To learn more, have a look at our blog article, Digital Signatures Explained. In short, once you create a digital signature through Smallpdf, you—and anyone else—can verify the authenticity of this signature and check whether the document was edited since signing.

Smallpdf Pro users can save up to five different signatures within our eSign service, streamlining the process of signing PDFs for you. If you’re not currently on a paid Pro subscription, a free 7-day trial is always available for you to experience Smallpdf in its full capacity.

We hope you find our contract signing tool useful. Remember, since it’s an online service, you can sign documents anytime, anywhere—on your computer, mobile device, or tablet. We wish you the best of luck with your new job, your new home, or that you close deals quicker with eSign!
