How To Make a PDF Signable for Free

Use our online eSign tool to request others to create electronic signatures and sign your PDF document for free. No registration is required.

So technically, every PDF is signable. You may not be able to edit a PDF’s content or move its objects around, but you can always place an electronic or digital signature onto the document. All you need is the appropriate tool to do so, and we provide just this with the Smallpdf eSign feature.

There are two options here: You may need to sign a PDF yourself or request a signature from other(s). We’ll go through how you can go about both cases.

How To Make a PDF Signable for Self-Signing

  1. Open up our online eSign tool.

  2. Drag and drop your PDF into the toolbox.

  3. Once it loads, click ‘Create signature.’

  4. Create your signature, drag it onto the document.

  5. Hit ‘Finish & Sign’ and download your signed PDF.

For self-signing, the process is relatively simple.

Feel free to use our tool whenever you need to sign any PDF document. A pro tip: if you have a contract to sign in a different file format, such as Word, you can always convert the document to PDF format with our PDF Converter tool and then sign it using the eSign tool.

If you need to sign digital documents extensively, do check out our Pro offerings—we’ll even store your signatures online for a swifter signing experience.

How To Make a PDF Signable and Request Others To Sign

  2. Upload your PDF document.

  3. Once it loads, click ‘Add Signer.’

  4. Fill out the signer’s name and email.

  5. Specify where the signer should sign.

  6. Hit ‘Review & Send.’

We will then send an email to the signer to notify them of the sign request. Then, the signer can go straight to the eSign tool from the email to sign the PDF. Since you will be creating fillable signature fields for all signers anyway, the signing process should be a piece of cake. Once the document is signed, we will send both you and the signer a confirmation email to download the final version of the PDF.

If you need to sign before requesting a signature, you can do so as well. For fillable PDF forms, feel free to work through the form fields using our eSign tool. If you need to add text manually, there is the ‘Add Text’ option at the top left corner to do just that.

Sign PDFs Anytime, Anywhere

With our eSign PDF tool, you may make those PDF contracts signable whenever you need, whether you are in the office or are on the go. Since we operate an online site, feel free to bookmark and head back to the tool via your working laptop, PC, or even mobile phone. Smallpdf is compatible with every web browser there is—you need a working internet connection for it to function.

Happy signing!
